The Power Alert system is a residential demand response system introduced in 2006.

It allows households across South Africa to participate in reducing pressure on the national power grid by switching off unnecessary lights and appliances.

The system operates in conjunction with South Africa’s National Control Centre, a national key point in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, that monitors the real-time big picture of South Africa’s electricity supply status at any given moment.

How is your participation making a difference?

Switching off lights and appliances in response to Power Alerts you’ve seen on television enabled us to save enough electricity to power over 15 million energy saving lamps!

Thank you for switching off between 5pm and 9pm.
